Mount Mulanje Porters Race – Annually in July

The Mount Mulanje Porters’ Race, one of Malawi’s most challenging extreme sporting events is set in July annually. The race starts at Likhubula Valley, right at the foot of the mountain, with participants running up to Chambe Plateau about 2,500m above sea level, to Lichenya Plateau and back down to Likhubula.

The route is rocky and hazardous and the paths are small. But though this is Malawi’s only extreme sport, elite runners cover such a tiring distance of 25km up and down the mountain in less than three hours!

For further information, contact: kondwani@mountmulanje.org.mw

And follow the event on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Portersrace

Athletes began their day with a 10 km run, then they head out to a 2 km swim followed by a 20 km bike ride.

The Cape Maclear Triathlon - Annually in September

The annual TNM Cape Maclear Triathlon takes place each September. Set in a gem location on the gorgeous shores of Lake Malawi within the national park and UNESCO World Heritage site, the triathlons in 2015 and 2016 were both a great success. In 2015, we had over 210 participants and 300 guests for the music festival, and in 2016.

The triathlon offers athletes and families a chance to enjoy the spectacular sun-kissed beaches, a warm sub-tropical climate as well as the friendly warm heart of the locals. The 1km swim along the shores of Lake Malawi, followed by an undulating 17km cycle through the hills of the national park, and the 4.5km. It is sure to provide some excitement in this beautiful location to both the participants and the locals.
